Although the ongoing coronavirus pandemic may be under control by this summer, Amazon Prime and Paramount aren’t finished making deals. After successfully premiering Coming 2 America, Paramount has sold Amazon Prime the rights to The Tomorrow War for $200 million. Additionally, the previously planned July 23 theatrical release date has been cancelled. Instead, The Tomorrow War will debut on Prime on July 2.
Chris Pratt will headline The Tomorrow War as high school teacher Dan Forester. In the film, time travelers arrive from 2051 and warn that humanity is losing a war to alien invaders three decades from now. Dan and others like him will be recruited to return to the future and fight for humanity’s survival. J.K. Simmons will play Dan’s father, while Yvonne Strahovski will portray a brilliant scientist who teams up with Dan.

We couldn’t be happier to continue our relationship with Chris Pratt—who brings such dynamic star power to the film—along with David Ellison and the Skydance team, as we share this exciting film with fans.”
Betty Gilpin will also star in The Tomorrow War alongside Sam Richardson, Theo Von, Jasmine Matthews, Keith Powers, and Mary Lynn Rajskub. Additionally, Edwin Hodge, Mike Mitchell, Seychelle Gabriel, Alan Trong, and Chibuikem Uche also have roles in the film.
