Tom Holland’s Uncharted Movie Gets Pushed Back a Week

Sony’s Uncharted movie is no stranger to delays at this point. But it looks like fans will have to wait another week for the studio’s highly-anticipated video game adaptation. According to Variety, Sony has moved the film from February 11, 2022 to the following Friday, February 18.

If it weren’t for COVID-19, Uncharted would have premiered this summer. After an endless slew of directorial shakeups, Venom helmer Ruben Fleischer finally got cameras rolling last year with Tom Holland and his castmates shooting scenes around Berlin. Production eventually shut down in March 2020 as the coronavirus continued to spread worldwide. However, filming resumed in July, and principal photography wrapped last fall.

Uncharted is only the latest Sony film to face a delay amid the ongoing pandemic shuffle. Earlier this week, the studio moved Venom: Let There Be Carnage to late September. Additionally, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will now hit theaters in late November instead of Labor Day weekend as originally planned. Sony’s upcoming slate also includes Ghostbusters: Afterlife (November 11) and Morbius (January 21, 2022).

For now, Holland’s other Sony franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home, is remaining in place. That co-production with Marvel Studios will hit theaters on December 17. But given the ongoing pandemic, that date could change again as well. It’s anyone’s guess at this point.

Holland will play Nathan Drake in the film. However, Holland’s version of Nate is much younger than his video game counterpart. If anything, this is more of a prequel or origin story for the iconic hero. Mark Wahlberg is co-starring as Nate’s mentor, Victor “Sully” Sullivan. The cast also includes Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali, and Tati Gabrielle.

Fleischer directed the movie from a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.
