As Wonder Woman 1984’s release date draws near, director Patty Jenkins already has big ideas for Wonder Woman 3. However, in addition to helming Diana’s third solo adventure, Jenkins is also working on an Amazons spinoff based on a concept she cooked up with WW84 co-writer Geoff Johns. From what we’ve been able to gather, the project is still in the earliest stages of development. But now, Jenkins is divulging a little bit more about what she and Johns are planning.
In a new interview with Geek Magazine (via Reddit), Jenkins revealed when the upcoming spinoff will take place. Apparently, it picks up sometime after the first Wonder Woman movie and even sets the stage for Jenkins’ third film.
“This is a story that Geoff Johns and I came up with and then introduced to [Warner Bros.],” said Jenkins. “The events of this story take place after Diana leaves Themyscira, the Island of the Amazons, and there are some twists and turns linked to what will happen between Wonder Woman 1984 and Wonder Woman 3. The production of the project has not yet officially started, but I hope we get it because I love this story.”

Jenkins originally teased her ideas for an Amazons spinoff last December, and earlier this year, she confirmed that she won’t be directing this movie herself. Instead, she will help guide the project to fruition as a producer. Jenkins has also said that she wants to take a break from the franchise after Wonder Woman 1984 premieres. But even though WB has yet to formally announce Wonder Woman 3, Jenkins has hinted that this will be her last movie set in the DC Universe.
Wonder Woman 1984 hits theaters and HBO Max on December 25. The Amazons spinoff is still without a release date.
