Michael B. Jordan To Produce Static Shock Movie For Warner Bros.

During August’s DC FanDome event, Milestone Media co-founder Denys Cowan announced that the long-defunct comic book imprint will return in 2021 in a big way. Among other reveals, he also teased that there have been “serious” talks about bringing the company’s best-known character, Static, to the big screen. Now, the film has recruited an A-lister to serve in a behind-the-scenes capacity. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael B. Jordan has joined the Static Shock movie as an executive producer.

Jordan will produce the film through his Outlier Society banner alongside filmmaker and comic scribe Reginald Hudlin. He also issued his own statement about what the project means to him.

“I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around black superheroes,” said Jordan. “Our community deserves that. Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms and we are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros on this initial step.”

Cowan, Dwayne McDuffie, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle introduced Static in his own Milestone comic book series in 1993. Seven years later, the character began headlining the Static Shock animated series on Kids’ WB. Phil LaMarr provided the voice of Static on the show, which ran on the network for four seasons. In 2008, Static was absorbed into the mainstream DC Universe.

Hudlin is also a major part of Milestone’s upcoming revival. After the imprint returns in February with a digital-first Static series, Hudlin and artist Kyle Baker will team up on an original Static graphic novel. The company has yet to announce a release date for that book.
