Lupita Nyong’o Remembers Chadwick Boseman in Powerful Tribute

Ten days have already passed since Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman passed away at the age of 43 after battling with cancer. Many fellow actors took their time to process the news of Boseman’s death and wanted to share their tribute to the late star. Most recently, Lupita Nyong’o shared her heartfelt message to her Black Panther co-star.

“I write these words from a place of hopelessness, to honor a man who had great hope. I am struggling to think and speak about my friend, Chadwick Boseman, in the past tense. It doesn’t make sense. The news of his passing is a punch to my gut every morning,” she wrote. “I am aware that we are all mortal, but you come across some people in life that possess an immortal energy, that seem like they have existed before, that are exactly where they are supposed to always be – here! … that seem ageless…. Chadwick was one of those people.”

Nyong’o starred as Nakia, an undercover spy and love interest for Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther.

The Marvel actress went on to add that Boseman “understood the power of words and chose to manifest power through his word,” and he told “some regrettably lame dad jokes.”

“He moved quietly, deliberately and without imposing himself or his ideas on others. And yet he also made damn sure that his life meant something,” Nyong’o wrote. “He cared so deeply about humanity, about Black people, about his people. He activated our pride. By pushing through and working with such high purpose in the films he chose to commit to, Chadwick has made the infinite his home.”

Nyong’o and Boseman should have met again on the set of Black Panther 2. The late actor was going to start preparing to return as T’Challa this month. You can check out her tribute here below.
