James Gunn Says The Suicide Squad & Guardians 3 Won’t Be Delayed
The novel coronavirus pandemic has wrecked havoc with Hollywood’s upcoming film slate. However, director James Gunn has revealed that his upcoming DC movie, The Suicide Squad, has dodged a bullet, so to speak. Via Variety, Gunn indicated on twitter that filming was completed for The Suicide Squad before production was halted all over the world. Additionally, post-production has already begun on the film.
Right now there’s no reason for #TheSuicideSquad release date to move. We are on or ahead of schedule. We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting & set up editing from our homes (due to a post production team & studio with foresight) before quarantine. https://t.co/URRFXX58r3

A fan’s follow up question gave Gunn the opportunity to say that his MCU return, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is also on track.
Right now the plans with Vol 3 are also exactly the same as they were before coronavirus. https://t.co/cVHe31gtPQ

That may be the case. However, Marvel Studios has yet to give Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 an official release date. Gunn won’t be able begin work on that film until after The Suicide Squad is completely finished. Marvel could set up the third Guardians movie for 2022, but it may be more likely to land in 2023 or later.
