A lot of work goes into making the Star Wars movies. Concept artists come up several designs for an individual character or action set piece before the filmmakers decide which ones they like best. These illustrations are usually collected in a special making-of book whose release coincides with that of the film. But unfortunately, fans will have to wait a bit longer to pore through designs for the Skywalker Saga’s impending conclusion. Via /Film, Abrams Books has delayed The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker until March 2020.
The new book was compiled by author Phil Szostak, who also oversaw the art books for The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Szostak himself recently confirmed the new book’s delay on Twitter. You can check out what he had to say below.

Additionally, Abrams (via Screen Rant) issued their own official statement. “The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will now release in Spring 2020. We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to sharing this collection of stunning concept art from the film in the new year.”
The publisher’s decision to push back the film’s release is somewhat surprising. The previous books hit stores on the same day their namesake films opened in theaters. Because of this, it doesn’t seem like safeguarding against spoilers is the reason behind the delay. It’s also worth noting that a similar book, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – The Visual Dictionary, is still arriving on December 20.
