After three straight years with three movies per year, Marvel Studios is slowing down in 2020. Only Black Widow and The Eternals will be in theaters, while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be the first MCU original on Disney+. However, that relaxed schedule won’t be the norm, according to Disney CCO and co-Chairman, Alan Horn.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, Horn said “Kevin Feige is working away. He will be making three or four [Marvel movies] a year. And they are very different from one another.”
2021 will be Marvel Studios’ biggest year to date. In addition to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Marvel will produce Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. Additionally, Marvel will co-produce the next Spider-Man movie for Sony Pictures in 2021. There are also four Marvel Studios series slated to hit Disney+ in 2021. Those include WandaVision, Loki, What If…?, and Hawkeye.

With so many Marvel projects in the pipeline, can the studio keep up with that pace? And is Marvel running the risk of burning out its core audience? Horn addressed the second question of whether Marvel films will become “uncool” with a resounding “no.”
“If the film has a compelling storyline, if it has heart and humor, two things that I insist on, and it’s terrifically well executed, I think there is an audience,” continued Horn. “But who knows?”
