Dave Bautista Reveals He Passed on a DC Movie Role

After appearing as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy, Dave Bautista’s star began to rise. The former wrestler-turned-actor has appeared in four Marvel Studios films with at least one more on the way. These opened the door for him to star in other films like Blade Runner 2049, Stuber, and next year’s Dune remake. But although he’s started to branch out beyond comic book roles, he apparently came close to inking a deal with Marvel’s biggest rival.

Earlier today, Bautista replied to a tweet suggesting that he could play the Batman villain Clayface in a standalone feature. He definitely seemed receptive to the idea. But once his response gained traction, he shared that Warner Bros. once courted him to play an unspecified DC character. A scheduling conflict forced him to turn it down. However, Bautista also used the opportunity to share his hopes for his future in the MCU. You can read what he had to say via Twitter below.

Bautista’s tweet gives the impression that he currently feels undervalued in the MCU. While Drax has headlined his own solo comic book series in the past (including one co-written by Bautista’s friend and fellow wrestler, CM Punk), Marvel Studios has offered no indication that they plan to give any of the Guardians their own spinoffs after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Bautista first revealed his wish for Drax to get his own movie in an interview with MTV International last year. Unfortunately, he admitted that it probably would never happen.

This isn’t the first time that Bautista has expressed interest in joining the DC Universe. He previously shared his desire for a role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad before Gunn was rehired to direct Guardians 3. Additionally, he’s open to playing Bane in a new Batman film.

Do you have any theories about which DC character Bautista passed on? Which role would you like to see him play in the DC Universe? Tell us what you think in the comment section below!
