Weekend Watch – Avengers: Endgame Press Tour & Interviews

Welcome to Weekend Watch, a recurring feature where we highlight some of the best geek-related videos around the web. Whether it’s short films, behind-the-scenes clips, video essays, or top 10 countdowns, the only requirement is that they are about our favorite geeky topics!

In this spoiler-free week’s edition of Weekend Watch, we’re preparing for the highly anticipated release of Avengers: Endgame with cast and filmmaker interviews from the press tour. We’re starting with a video of the full press conference moderated by none other than Jon Favreau. Then we’ll also spend some time with the film’s main cast as they reminisce about their MCU experiences.

Next, we’ll transition into a series of interviews with the Russo brothers themselves. Finally, we’ll close things out with a video from the Russos that serves as a mini oral history of Avengers: Infinity War. It’s important to note that everything from the Avengers: Endgame press conference is spoiler free. That’s because all questions related to the plot were strictly off limits.

Avengers: Endgame Full Press Conference

This video from Superhero News takes us to the recent press conference extravaganza held for Avengers: Endgame. The directors, producers, and stars gathered to discuss the journey of the MCU. Joe & Anthony Russo, Kevin Feige, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Brie Larson, Danai Gurira, Karen Gillan, and Paul Rudd all took part in the event. Again, there were no spoilers here. But there were some great moments of insight from the guests.

Avengers: Endgame Cast’s Favorite Lines & More

In this video from Jimmy Kimmel Live, Downey Jr., Hemsworth, Johansson & Paul Rudd join the late night host for a fairly lengthy interview. Although they can’t discuss the film itself, there is a recently released clip included halfway through. Additionally, the cast members talk about a variety of tangentially related topics. They touch upon the Avengers: Endgame premiere and getting matching Avengers tattoos. They also share their favorite lines from the films, talk about visiting Disneyland, and more.

Avengers: Endgame Original Cast Full Roundtable Interview

Entertainment Weekly brought the original six cast members and Feige together for a nearly twenty five minute interview. Most of the questions focus on the various journeys of the actors. But a good portion of the interview is also dedicated to remembering the late, great Stan Lee. While everyone shares memories of the legendary creator, it’s Feige’s anecdotes about Lee that are the most affecting.

Russo Brothers On Avengers: Endgame & Wrapping Up The MCU

Switching gears to the film’s directing duo, we have an interview with the Russo brothers that comes from MTV News. In it, they discuss wrapping up this era of the MCU. The interview also covers questions about the shooting script, and the potential for a longer director’s cut. They also say whether they would ever consider helming a DC project.

Russo Brothers Interview Avengers: Endgame

Our next interview with the filmmaking duo comes from Collider. After again broaching the subject of the film’s three hour runtime and pacing, the interview delves into the film’s visual effects, along with the awards season stigma behind superhero movies. They also talk about how they crafted the ending of Avengers: Endgame. Additionally, the filmmakers discuss their upcoming adaptation of Cherry starring Tom Holland, as well as the final VFX shot that they needed to finish the film.

Oral History of Avengers: Endgame & Infinity War

Closing things out, our final interview with the Russo Brothers comes via RottenTomatoes. While most of the interview is focused on Avengers: Infinity War, there are some great tidbits about some of the creative choices behind that film. The brothers discuss how they designed the look of the so-called dusting, the film’s saddest death and creating Thanos.

Also covered is how the Russos created the story for the two films and detailing how they decided to split up the characters in that film. The filmmakers also talk about the tedious nature of keeping the script a secret and one of the many techniques that they are using to keep the film’s plot under wraps. As they note, this is ultimately a good thing because it preserves the initial experience of watching the film.
