John Cena May Join The Suicide Squad

James Gunn’s latest film may have found the newest member of Task Force X. According to Variety, WWE Superstar John Cena is in negotiations to join the cast of The Suicide Squad.

Variety’s report didn’t offer any clues about which character Cena may portray in the film, and Warner Bros. declined to comment. Cena recently starred in the Transformers prequel, Bumblebee, alongside Hailee Steinfeld. Much like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson before him, Cena is transitioning away from pro wrestling while pursuing an acting career. He previously headlined The Marine and 12 Rounds for WWE Studios, before earning more prominent roles in Trainwreck, Ferdinand, and Blockers.

Thus far, only two Suicide Squad cast members are confirmed to reprise their roles. Viola Davis will once again play Amanda Waller, while Jai Courtney will return as Captain Boomerang. Margot Robbie may still come back as Harley Quinn. However, she recently wrapped up her part in Birds of Prey, which will prominently feature her as the lead.

Will Smith will not be back for The Suicide Squad, which means that Deadshot won’t be returning for the sequel. Idris Elba was initially recruited to take over Deadshot from Smith, before the studio and Gunn changed their minds. Now, Elba will be portraying an entirely new character in the film. However, Bronze Tiger appears to the popular prediction for Elba among Suicide Squad fans.
