Batman Ninja Anime is Getting a Live Stage Show in Japan

Nearly two years ago, Warner Bros. Animation released one of its most unique direct-to-video DC movies: Batman Ninja. Later this year, Japanese audiences will have the chance to see the film’s story play out in live action. Via Heroic Hollywood, Tokyo theater company Office Endless is producing a stage show based on the film.

Batman Ninja was directed by Junpei Mizusaki and written by Kazuki Nakashima. It also featured character design work courtesy of Takashi Okazaki, who previously created Afro Samurai. The movie followed the Dark Knight after an incident with Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine transports him and several of his deadliest adversaries from modern-day Gotham City to Feudal Japan. As his villains begin to amass power as feudal lords, Batman teams up with his allies to restore the past to normal and return to the present.

When it arrived in 2018, critics praised Batman Ninja for its narrative inventiveness as well as its gorgeous visuals. The upcoming stage production will run from October 10 to December 31 at Tokyo’s Theatre Moliere Shinjuku. Obviously, a plane ticket to Japan isn’t exactly within everyone’s reach. But perhaps if the show is successful overseas, it might convince the theater company to tour it stateside as well.

Office Endless has also launched an official website for their production of Batman Ninja. No actors have been hired yet, but the casting process will probably get underway soon. In the meantime, fans can already purchase their tickets for the upcoming run of shows.
