Exclusive: Producer and Screenwriter Simon Kinberg on X-Men: Apocalypse

The movie doesn’t open for a couple weeks on May 23, but while speaking with screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg, we did talk a little bit about where the X-Men franchise will go from here, the next movie in the series X-Men: Apocalypse, currently scheduled for May 27, 2016.

In the interview segment below, you can see what Kinberg had to say about introducing one of the X-Men’s most persistently hard-to-defeat villains. For those without the ability to watch the video, here’s what he said:

“We want to tell the Apocalypse story and there’s massive scale and scope to telling that story. There’s going to be set pieces that I suspect are going to be bigger than anything we’ve ever done in an X-Men movie before and he’s a great character. The biggest and funnest challenge of the Apocalypse movie to me is his character. How do you create a new villain for the X-Men world that is as good as any villain that’s come before, is compelling philosophically as Magneto, not just in his physical powers, but in his philosophical depth. ‘Apocalypse’ is going to be a fun movie to write and make.”

SuperHeroHype will have a lot more with Kinberg, as well as his co-producers Lauren Schuler Donner and Hutch Parker, and of course the movie’s cast including a great interview with Hugh Jackman, who once again returns as Wolverine. Look for all that in the two weeks leading up to X-Men: Days of Future Past on May 23.
