Oldboy – October 11, 2013
What’s it about? “Oldboy” follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor’s motive. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.
Why we’re excited? Though the idea of remaking Oldboy is enough to turn off a lot of viewers, we’re interested to see where Spike Lee takes this amazing roster of actors.
Ender’s Game – November 1, 2013
Who’s in it? Asa Butterfield stars with Ben Kingsley, Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Viola Davis, Nonso Anozie, Stevie Ray Dillmore, Andrea Powell, Moises Arias, Conor Carroll, Aramis Knight, Brendan Meyer, Jimmy “Jax” Pinchak, Suraj Parthasarathy and Khylin Rhambo. Gavin Hood directs the film and wrote the adaptation of the Orson Scott Card novel.
What’s it about? In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.
Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Why we’re excited? As long time fans of the original novel, this is something we’ve been waiting for for a long time!
Thor: The Dark World – November 8, 2013
What’s it about? Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all. The film will be presented in 2D and 3D.
Why we’re excited? The first Thor was really unlike any other superhero that we’ve seen and hopefully the sequel will embrace the things about the first that made it so unique.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – December 13, 2013

Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, Richard Armitage, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Sylvester McCoy, Bret McKenzie, Graham McTavish, Mike Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Conan Stevens, Ken Stott, Jeffrey Thomas, Aidan Turner, Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly, Barry Humphries, and Billy Connolly. Peter Jackson directs the film with a screenplay he co-wrote with Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Guillermo del Toro.
What’s it about? “The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.
Why we’re excited? It seems that the really exciting aspects of The Hobbit story will be in the second part of the new trilogy. Just take a look at the first photo released from the movie!
47 Ronin – December 25, 2013
Who’s in it? Keanu Reeves stars with Hiroyuki Sanada, Kou Shibasaki, Tadanobu Asano, and Rinko Kikuchi. Carl Rinsch directs the film from a screenplay by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini.
What’s it about? From ancient Japan’s most enduring tale, the epic 3D fantasy-adventure 47 Ronin is born. Keanu Reeves leads the cast as Kai, an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of the 47 Ronin. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors.
Why we’re excited? Reeves has been trying to get this movie made for a long time as it’s a bit of a passion project for him. Now that it’s actually coming out, we can’t wait to see this story that he’s been so eager to tell.
