Superhero Hype’s Pre-Black Friday 2021 Amazon Movie and DVD Deals

A holiday weekend is coming, and with it, the chance to park one’s posterior in front of the big-screen TV and feed the eyeballs. Movie theaters may be opening again, but not everyone’s ready to go back. And if the kids are stuck at home, purchases, rather than rentals, start to look better and better for the inevitable repeat viewings. But with so many, it’s hard to know where to begin or what to afford. In advance of Black Friday, deals have already begun. Below, Superhero Hype takes a look at some of the better selections Amazon.com has running as of publication time. Please note that all deals are subject to change or sell out at any time based on supply and demand. These are the best pre-Black Friday Amazon movie deals:

Batman 80th Anniversary Collection (BD)
$43.02

Eighteen animated Batman movies in one affordable set. Includes the theatrical Mask of the Phantasm, the Adam West-starring Return of the Caped Crusaders, and adaptations of The Killing Joke, Gotham by Gaslight, and The Dark Knight Returns. Whichever Batman is “yours,” tonally speaking, he’s probably represented here at least once.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League Trilogy 4k + Blu-ray
$55.99

The Snyderverse never got to five, but just because it ends with a hint of future darkness doesn’t mean the story is incomplete. An arc of the rise, fall, and redemption of Superman and Batman, it’s still an epic undo itself. Six lenticular cards, three art cards, and one print of the Anti-Life equation accompany the trilogy in 4K, which includes the remastered Batman v Superman ultimate edition with corrected colors and shifting Imax aspect ratio.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 4K ULTRA HD
$9.99

Part of a very elite club of Oscar-winning superhero movies, Into the Spider-Verse is considered by many to be the best comic-movie ever. It’s certainly one of the most literal, using speech bubbles, frames, newspaper color schemes, fourth-wall breakage, and the full multiverse. And it earns every pixel of that 4K high-frame rate. An absolute steal for $10.

Star Trek 10-Movie Stardate Collection
$50

At $5 per movie, how can you go wrong here? Own all the original continuity Star Trek features, from the one where Kirk meets the Voyager probe all the way up to the one where Tom Hardy tries to kill Picard. Plus two bonus discs!

Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection (4K UHD + Digital Copy)
$159.99

Once folks get over the ending and whether or not it matched expectations, they might just remember what an epic fantasy drama Game of Thrones was. Beautifully drawn and pointedly hideous, it constantly kept us guessing and shifting our loyalties. And the dragons were cool.

Besides…spin-offs are coming.

X-Men: Beginnings Trilogy 4K UHD
$42.99

Witness the first generation of X-Men, led by James McAvoy’s Professor X and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto. Watch them solve the Cuban Missile Crisis, save their future selves, and…meet a giant blue Oscar Isaac at the pyramids. Not every mission’s a classic, but at least two of the three are.

Venom / Venom: Let There Be Carnage – Multi-Feature
Blu-ray + Digital

$29.99

Available just in time for Christmas via preorder, this double feature of both Tom Hardy Venom films runs about the same price as either one by itself. Because, after all, it’s all about the duality.

Beyond Re-Animator
$23.10

The third in Brian Yuzna’s increasingly loose series of H.P. Lovecraft adaptations once again sees Jeffrey Combs back in his star-making role as Dr. Herbert West. Still trying to perfect his formula for bringing back the dead, he tries it this time on death row prisoners. With, of course, the usual disastrous results. Vestron’s collector edition makes the admittedly cheap sequel look the best it ever has, with effects by Screaming Mad George.

Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist – Live Action
$9.89

From the late, great Machinima YouTube channel comes perhaps the most accurate live-action version of the adventures of Ken and Ryu yet. See them learn to throw fireballs, face off against Akuma, and much more. Hadouken!

Child’s Play (2019) (BD) + Digital Copy
$13.60

The deceptive cover art may mislead, but no, this is not the same Chucky currently starring in the best show on basic cable right now. It’s the better-than-expected sci-fi remake, with Mark Hamill as the voice of a robot doll that accidentally gets set to “evil,” Treehouse of Horror style. Because the entire rest of the Chucky canon interconnects in a pretty great way, this deviation from it may well get forgotten. But purely as its own thing, it’s a blast. Rather than the flat-out profane jerk version in the main franchise, Hamill plays the doll as a hurt little kid who’s all-too-willing to hurt back.
