The Power Rangers’ Darkest Hour Reaches Aquitar in MMPR #117 First Look

BOOM! Studios has shared a first look inside Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #117 — the next chapter in the yearlong “Darkest Hour” event.

MMPR #117 hits comic shops at the end of this month from writer Melissa Flores, artists Simona Di Gianfelice and Marco Renna, colorist Raúl Angulo, color assistant Jose Enrique Fernández, and letterer Ed Dukeshire. The issue features a main cover by Taurin Clarke, as well as variant covers by Björn Barends, Goñi Montes, and Michael Walsh. (Walsh’s variant is the first in a series of three connecting covers.) At this time, BOOM! has shared four fully-lettered preview pages, in which the planet Aquitar falls to the virus Dark Specter has infected the Morphin Grid with.

An official synopsis for MMPR #117 reads as follows: “Things are desperate as the Dark Specter steps up an attack, with Rangers from different universes and civilians alike teaming up to keep the carnage at bay, but some special objects may be the key to keeping the planet safe … even if it won’t last for long. As Billy, Dr. Kendall Morgan, and the Phantom Ranger rush to repair the Master Arch, they’re only able to pull a single ally from the heart of the Morphin Grid as Dark Specter’s power grows…”

What is MMPR’s ‘Darkest Hour’ event about?

The “Darkest Hour” arc kicked off in August 2023’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #111. The 12-month event promises to “forever change the Power Rangers universe.” In it, the villainous Mistress Vile has gained control of the Morphin Grid while Dark Specter’s infection spreads throughout the universe. The Rangers, meanwhile, have been stranded and separated from one another. The Drakkon Rangers show up to lend them a hand. However, they “may not be the help [our heroes] were hoping for.”

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #117 goes on sale Wednesday, February 28 from BOOM! Studios.
