Nick Spencer’s Last Amazing Spider-Man Issue Arrives in September

This year is already primed to bring about the end of several landmark creative runs on various Marvel titles. And now, we can officially add Nick Spencer’s Amazing Spider-Man run to that list. Marvel has confirmed that Spencer will conclude his stint as the writer of Peter Parker’s flagship series after 74 issues. Incidentally, this will also be the book’s 875th issue overall.

Spencer took over The Amazing Spider-Man in 2018 following successful turns on Captain America and Secret Empire. And over the last three years, he’s worked with many different artists on dozens of new Spidey tales. For his upcoming swan song, Marvel is giving Spencer 80 pages to work with. Additionally, several of his collaborators from throughout his run will help him say goodbye. Artists Patrick Gleason, Mark Bagley, and Marcelo Ferreira are also contributing to Spencer’s final issue.

“The last three years of Amazing Spider-Man have been Nick Spencer’s love letter to his favorite character and comic,” said editor Nick Lowe. “He may be the biggest Spidey fan ever as evidenced from the fact that he read every Spider-Man comic in preparation for his landmark run.”

“From #1 all the way through #74, Nick (along with Ryan Ottley, Humberto Ramos, Patrick Gleason, Mark Bagley and more) has gone huge with more villains, more supporting characters, and more punishment for Peter Parker,” added Low. “From ‘Hunted’ to ‘Sins Rising’ to ‘Last Remains’ to ‘King’s Ransom’ to ‘Sinister War’ and now to the ultra-sized finale ‘What Cost Victory,’ Nick will bring his web-slinging rollercoaster ride back into the station in a way you’ll never forget!”

The Amazing Spider-Man #74 hits comic shops on September 22. You can also view Gleason’s cover for the issue below.
