Marvel Drafts Al Ewing, Ram V, and Bryan Hitch to Take Over Venom This Fall

The end of Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s groundbreaking Venom run is still two weeks away. However, Marvel already has big plans for Eddie Brock’s future. Starting this fall, the all-star team of Al Ewing and Ram V will assume writing duties for the ongoing title, with artist Bryan Hitch also making his triumphant return to the House of Ideas for the first time in nearly a decade. You can check out some of his promo art for the relaunch below.

The new team will have big shoes to fill after Cates and Stegman have their final bow in this month’s Venom #200. But the new team Marvel has assembled seems more than capable of continuing Eddie’s story. Ewing is coming off his own fan-favorite run on The Immortal Hulk, which wraps up in August. Meanwhile, Ram V has made a name for himself as the writer of Image’s Blue in Green. He has also tackled various DC books, including Justice League Dark and Swamp Thing.

Hitch has illustrated several seminal work for Marvel over the years. He is best known as one of the architects of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. During the early 2000s, he teamed with Mark Millar on The Ultimates, and he also designed the costumes for Ultimate Fantastic Four. Hitch’s last major Marvel project was the Age of Ultron miniseries, which was released back in 2013. The gravity of Hitch’s return isn’t lost on his new Venom collaborators.

“When my editors at Marvel reached out about taking on Venom alongside Al Ewing and Bryan Hitch, I was not prepared for the kind of creative thrill it has been ever since,” said Ram V in a statement. “This story is going to expand and push the symbiote narrative and lore in even more unexpected and fantastic directions. It is also an utter thrill having the sort of call and response mechanic I’ve had with a writer like Al and an artist of Bryan’s caliber. Fans and new readers, strap in— you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.”

Venom #1 will hit comic shops sometime in November.
