New Adult MCU Project To Release After Canceled Marvel Series

A new special presentation following a beloved character will soon arrive on Disney+, years after an original Marvel series was canceled. It will feature a returning fan-favorite Marvel character. In the upcoming feature, he reluctantly falls back into his brutal ways after struggling to find peace.

The Punisher: One Last Kill to release on Disney+ this month

A one-hour special, The Punisher: One Last Kill, is premiering on Disney+ on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The company announced the release date with a trailer last month.

The show is a part of Marvel’s Special Presentations. It previously comprised Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. This series features hour-long special features that are fully canon with the MCU.

Netflix canceled its original Marvel show, The Punisher, shortly after Season 2 wrapped up in 2019. However, since the events of the show are canon within the MCU, One Last Kill takes place several years after Season 2.

In the upcoming special, Frank Castle struggles to cope with everything he’s lost. Moreover, his dark past continues to haunt him. His attempts to find peace fail after an unexpected incident forces him to use his deadly skills.

Jon Bernthal headlines the show as the titular character. He also co-wrote the script alongside the show’s director, Reinaldo Marcus Green. The supporting cast features Chelsea Brea, Colton Hill, Jamal Lloyd Johnson, Jason R. Moore, and Evelyn O. Vaccaro, among others.

Bernthal reportedly originated the premise for The Punisher: One Last Kill while filming Daredevil: Born Again. He explained that the ending of the show’s Season 1 gave him the opportunity to tell more stories about his character. “I feel like it’s opened the door to getting closer to the Frank Castle that I really, really want to portray,” the actor told Entertainment Weekly.

During the interview, the Fury actor also recalled going through the process and pitching the idea since he didn’t want Marvel to just “hand him” the opportunity. While talking about the show’s premise, Bernthal said that it is “a visceral, psychologically complex, unforgiving, no-holds-barred version of Frank where he’s going to turn his back to the audience.”
