HBO Max responded on X to a fan comment questioning the lack of visible green in promotional footage for the DC series Lanterns. The exchange began when a user wrote, “Oh my god bruh where is the GREEN he’s a GREEN LANTERN.” HBO Max replied directly to the post, stating, “What do you mean there’s no green?”
The platform’s response included an image showing a green plastic basket placed on a table. The image referenced the color associated with the Green Lantern characters. The interaction drew attention on the platform, and the HBO Max post accumulated more than 761,000 views with hundreds of replies. The exchange occurred shortly after promotional material for the series circulated online.
Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King created the upcoming superhero television series Lanterns for HBO. The series adapts the DC Comics Green Lantern characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart. It follows the two intergalactic peacekeepers as they investigate a murder in Nebraska that leads to wider mysteries. DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television produce the series, with Mundy serving as showrunner.
Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan, a veteran member of the Green Lantern Corps who is approaching retirement. Aaron Pierre portrays John Stewart, a new recruit Jordan trains. The cast also includes Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. Recurring performers include Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen.
Production began in February 2025 in Los Angeles and continued through July of that year. The series will run for eight episodes. HBO plans to premiere Lanterns and stream it on HBO Max in August 2026. The show is part of the DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
