The first teaser for HBO’s upcoming series Lanterns has finally dropped, giving fans a closer look at the Green Lanterns’ DCU mythology on screen. It highlights John Stewart and Hal Jordan. But most importantly, we get to see the second and third Lantern rings of power within the new DC Universe, after Guy Gardner’s ring appeared in Superman.
John Stewart’s Green Lantern ring revealed with Lanterns’ teaser trailer
The latest teaser quickly establishes the dynamic between John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, and Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler. But along with the teaser, HBO Max gave us the clearest look yet at Stewart’s ring of power.
After this, the teaser showed Stewart working alongside veteran Lantern Hal Jordan, whose ring is also seen in action. It is revealed that Hal has been training John for about two months. However, the teaser hints that John still hasn’t had any chances to properly use the ring during that period. While we just got the reveal of Stewart’s ring, Hal’s ring was revealed last year in late 2025.
The design suggests it has been through years of battles and difficult missions. In contrast, John’s ring looks newer, highlighting the difference in their experience levels as Green Lanterns. Before this latest reveal, fans had already seen Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion)’s ring in Superman.
With the two latest additions, the DC Universe has now shown three different Green Lantern rings. They could probably be seen together on screen as well because Fillion is already confirmed to return in Lanterns. He joined the cast that includes Kelly Macdonald, Poorna Jagannathan, Garret Dillahunt, Ulrich Thomsen, and Jasmine Cephas Jones, among others.
Lanterns is currently lined up for a debut on HBO and HBO Max this August. It will be the second DCU project this year, sandwiched between the theatrical releases of Supergirl and Clayface.
