The worlds of Marvel and Star Wars may soon collide, and fans will have Mark Millar to thank for making it happen.
A Marvel/Star Wars crossover comic is reportedly on the way
Disney is no stranger to a corporate crossover, especially if it involves Marvel and Star Wars, which it has owned since 2009 and 2012, respectively. Both brands previously crossed over with the hit Disney Channel cartoon Phineas and Ferb in the mid-2010s.
Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019 also opened the door for the franchises under that studio to get in on the corporate synergy. The most recent example of this is Marvel Comics‘ four-issue Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four miniseries. The crossover comic book series began in February 2026 and sees Marvel’s First Family stranded on Ape City.
The crossover comic has been met with largely positive reviews, although there have been some negative reviews, most notably from Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefield, who took to X earlier this month to criticize the crossover, writing, “Just wait until Star Wars/Avengers next year… yeesh.”
While Liefeld’s comment was meant as a jab at Marvel’s publishing initiatives, according to Bleeding Cool, an Avengers/Star Wars limited crossover series is in fact in the works at Marvel Comics, with Mark Millar set to write it.
Millar is a recognizable figure in the comic book industry, having risen to prominence during his time at DC and Marvel. Over the past decade, he’s been busy with his own Millarworld line of comics, which was bought by Netflix in 2017.
While Millar would be under an exclusivity deal with Netflix, Bleeding Cool reports that it has heard that the comic book writer was dropped by the company last year, allowing him to work for DC and Marvel again.
Millar is a vocal Star Wars fan, having previously stated, “I love the original trilogy so much that I quote or refer to them at least once a day.”
It’s unclear how long the Star Wars/Avengers comic has been in the works, although he shared back in September 2024 on the Word Balloon podcast that he would only return to Marvel if he could write something “bigger than Civil War,” the 2000s crossover event that split the Marvel Universe into two opposing factions led by Captain America and Iron Man. The crossover event was later adapted into the 2016 blockbuster hit Captain America: Civil War.
Millar continued, “I’m not going to come in and do an Iceman series or something like that. I only want to come in and do something that’s going to be bigger than Civil War, and the thing I have is way bigger than Civil War, and Civil War is the biggest-selling graphic novel Marvel’s ever had. The biggest in history. I said this is the one thing that could top it, and I haven’t told him what it is. I’m going to hold off.”
Whether Avengers/Star Wars is what Millar was alluding to back in 2024 remains to be confirmed, as does the crossover itself by Marvel.
In the meantime, Marvel readers can pick up the next issue of Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four on March 11, 2026.
