Justice League Unlimited #1 Preview Highlights Novice Hero’s First Day at Work

They are the World’s Finest heroes, but they nearly fell before the Absolute Power of Amanda Waller. Thankfully, the heroes of Earth rallied, proving the need for a Justice League to unite them. This lead to the formation of a new organization without limits; a Justice League Unlimited.

Written by Mark Waid, with art by Dan Mora, Justice League Unlimited begins a new era for the heroes of DC Comics. Previously, the team was made up of the most powerful and versatile superheroes. However, the need for specialists and to better organize all heroes everywhere was made apparent by recent events. This gave rise to a new direction and a new team, which offers training to novice heroes like Air Wave. It is through Air Wave’s eyes that readers are introduced to the Watchtower and the new team.

Justice League Unlimited to feature rotating team of World’s Finest

In an interview on the DC Comics website, Mark Waid noted that the unified front presented in Justice League Unlimited is a first for comics. However, multiple animated adaptations, such as Young Justice and the DCAU have depicted a Justice League that organized multiple teams into one army. This will present new challenges for the group to navigate, apart from the usual superheroic tests of their powers.

“It’s not a matter of the traditional JL working together,” Waid notes. “It’s a case of enlisting everyone who has powers and wants to be on the team. And it will be Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman knowing based on any oncoming threats who is best to take that threat on.”

Waid and Mora told several stories with similar themes in the Batman/Superman: World’s Finest series. That book made use of many obscure DC characters, from the Metal Men to the Doom Patrol. It seems likely that Justice League Unlimited will proceed in the same vein.

Justice League Unlimited #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on November 27, 2024.
