Thunderbolts*: Lewis Pullman Dodges Sentry Casting Speculation

Thunderbolts* star Lewis Pullman shares his excitement about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe while dodging questions about whether or not he is playing Robert Reynolds/The Sentry.

“What a beautiful costume. Look at those locks, my God,” Pullman said in an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast when host Josh Horowitz showed him some Sentry artwork from the comics. “I haven’t looked into Sentry,” Pullman continued. “First time I’ve heard this name. The Sentry sounds like a snakey, shapeshifter kind of vibe if you read the comics.”

While Pullman could not confirm or deny playing Sentry, the Top Gun: Maverick actor says it was a dream come true to be involved in a Marvel Studios production. “You know, I think the MCU is always something that I’ve watched and felt like is a beautiful world that is kind of untouchable,” Pullman said. “I think there is something about joining that world which is similar to joining television in that whenever somebody joins in, you want it to be as a character you can live in for a long time and an aspect of the world you want to be in.”

In January, Pullman replaced Invincible star Steven Yeun due to scheduling conflicts as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Yeun’s Invincible creator Robert Kirkman had confirmed he was set to play the Sentry in November 2023 before his exit from the project. Marvel Studios has yet to comment on Pullman’s role.

Who stars in Thunderbolts*?

Directed by Jake Schreier with a script by Beef writer Lee Sung Jin, Thunderbolts will see Florence Pugh reprise her Black Widow role as Yelena Belova. She will join forces with fellow MCU stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, and Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster. Additionally, Harrison Ford replaces the late William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and Lewis Pullman as the Sentry.

Thunderbolts opens in theaters on May 5, 2025.
