X-Men: Wolverine Gets New Solo Series For 50th Anniversary

He’s the best he is at what he does, but what he does isn’t very nice. Yet comic readers have enjoyed watching the man called Logan do what he does for five decades. Now, just in time for his 50th anniversary, Wolverine will be getting a new solo series as part of the X-Men From The Ashes revival.

The new Wolverine book will be written by acclaimed writer Saladin Ahmed. He is currently the writer on Daredevil, and will also be writing the new From The Ashes X-Men series. Ahmed is joined on the new Wolverine book by Immortal Thor artist Martín Cóccolo.

“When I was a kid, Wolverine was the coolest character in comics,” Ahmed shared. “That hasn’t changed a whole lot for me. So when Marvel approached me about a new solo Logan book, it was an instant YES.”

Cóccolo was equally enthusiastic about the new series. “I could talk for hours about why I decided to take this relaunch, but you want my real answer? It’s Wolverine. That’s it,” Cóccolo shared. “It’s a dream come true for me, and I can’t believe I get to tell my younger self every day that I’m drawing Wolverine.”

The Story Behind the New Wolverine Series

In describing the new book, Ahmed spoke of Wolverine’s complexity as a character. “Logan is simultaneously a mythic hero, an abused animal, and a man of flesh, blood, and adamantium,” he explained. “Our story is about what happens when these parts of him all pull in opposite directions – and threaten to rip Logan to pieces that won’t come back together again.”

The new series will find Logan returned to the Canadian wilderness, running with a wolf pack and embracing his inner beast. However, his exile is interrupted by his most hated enemies, and the resulting battles fuel an existential threat. This will lead to the awakening of an ancient evil, requiring Wolverine to prove himself a hero like never before.

Wolverine #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on September 11, 2024.
