Star Wars: Daisy Ridley Reveals Why Reprising Rey in New Jedi Order Is ‘Really Strange’

Star Wars franchise star Daisy Ridley explains how reprising Rey Skywalker in the upcoming New Jedi Order will be a different experience from the sequel trilogy.

Ridley spoke to Total Film about her preparation for the new Star Wars movie playing Rey with an older mindset than where she was at age 22 filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. “I honestly have had moments where I’m like, ‘I don’t know if I remember what I did [as Rey].’ It’s really strange,” Ridley said.

“I think the whole thing will feel so different anyway with a totally different team. I’m in a very different place than I was. I’m probably going to be one of the adults, and initially, I was the youngest person on set, which is a weird feeling. I would also hope that it’s a lot of the same crew. Obviously, many people shifted, but many people stayed the same through all three films, and there was something wonderful and comforting about that. But I don’t know. It all remains to be seen. I would hope it feels natural in some way, but also like — I don’t know — like it’s a new adventure. I’m hoping it’s sort of a bit of both.”

Announced by Lucasfilm at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, New Jedi Order will see the return of Rey as a Jedi Master 15 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerSharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) is set to helm the movie with a screenplay by Steven Knight based on an earlier draft by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson.

Star Wars’ future on the big screen

New Jedi Order is not the only big screen project set to expand the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian & Grogu will make their leap from Disney+ to the cinemas with series creator Jon Favreau set to direct for a May 22, 2026 release in the United States. Additionally, James Mangold has a project with the working title of Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi in early development about the dawning of the Force.

Star Wars: New Jedi Order does not have a release date.
