Brian Tyree Henry on Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse: ‘Get Your Hankies Ready’

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse star Brian Tyree Henry says audiences will need to “get their hankies ready” when walking into the upcoming animated sequel.

Speaking with Deadline Hollywood, Henry was asked if the voice recording process had begun for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

“It’s in the works. It’s coming. It’s in the works, for sure. That one is even more epic than the last. You know how we do it,” he said.

Henry added, “Get your hankies ready. It’s going to go there.”

What do we know about Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse?

Following the critical and financial success of 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Sony announced in 2021 that the sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, would be split into two parts.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was initially scheduled to be released in March 2024; however, it was removed from Sony’s release schedule in July 2023. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire took the film’s spot, while a new release date for Beyond the Spider-Verse has not yet been set.

Plot details for the third Spider-Verse remain under wraps at this time; although, Phil Lord told Deadline in January 2024 that the film will be a “very satisfying conclusion” to the trilogy.

“It goes even more emotionally deep into the relationships between Miles, Gwen, Peter B., [and Miles’] parents,” he said. “…The big thing that’s interesting for Miles [in Beyond the Spider-Verse] is how do you deal with a sense of betrayal and turn it into something affirmative? And I think that the thing that we try to do with these movies is represent goodness and show how the love that the characters in the movie have for Miles translates into his growth and success.”

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is currently streaming on Fubo and FXNOW, while Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is available to watch on Netflix.
