Originally created for the Supergirl television series, Dreamer has become one of the most popular heroes of the Dawn of DC era. Suicide Squad: Dream Team #1 continues to develop Dreamer and her connection to the Dreaming realm. It also reveals there is a major drawback to the power that made her so attractive to Amanda Waller as a Task Force X recruit.
Written by Nicole Maines with art by Eddy Barrows, Suicide Squad: Dream Team picks up on a plotline from Superman: Son of Kal-El. The island nation of Gamorra is in turmoil following the overthrow of President Henry Bendix. This has placed Bendix’s arsenal of anti-metahuman technology at risk. This leads Amanda Waller to assemble a new Task Force X, which includes a forcibly conscripted Dreamer.
Dreamer’s role on the team is to act as transport. “The Wall” intends to take advantage of her newfound power to travel between locations in the Waking World through the Dream Realm. She hopes this “dream-traveling” can take the Suicide Squad through the shield cutting Gamorra off from the outside world.
Suicide Squad Discovers Limit to Dream Travel
The good news is that Waller’s confidence in Dreamer proved well-placed. The hero was able to transport the six-member team through the Dream Realm without incident. The bad news came when they reemerged into the Waking World.
Harley Quinn confirms that the man who provided their entryway into Gamorra died of shock. Apparently, a normal human mind cannot handle the strain of six people using it as a gateway. This discovery is a major blow to Dreamer, who is easily the least jaded of this new Suicide Squad. However, Amanda Waller gives her no time to grieve, as there is still a mission to accomplish and a nation to stabilize.
Suicide Squad: Dream Team #1 is now available in comic shops everywhere.
