Tom Holland Discusses Whether or Not He’ll Play Spider-Man Again

Tom Holland only wants to play Spider-Man again if it’s “worth the while of the character.”

Per Collider, Holland spoke about whether or not he’ll reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man at a recent press conference with the Critics Choice Association.

“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character,” Holland said. “Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”

Holland’s Spider-Man debuted in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. He continued to portray character in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, and 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Footage of Holland’s Spider-Man also appears in 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage’s mid-credit scene.

Is Spider-Man 4 happening with Tom Holland?

In September 2021, Holland told GQ that he doesn’t want to play Spider-Man after he turns 30 (Holland is currently 27), saying that means he’s “done something wrong” if that ends up happening. “Maybe it is time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life,” Holland said.

In March 2023, however, producer Amy Pascal said that a fourth Spider-Man movie with Holland and Zendaya was still definitely happening. “Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are,” she said, via Variety. “We’re in the process, but the writers strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”

Holland also said in June 2023, per Variety, that meetings with writers for Spider-Man 4 had been put on hold because of the Hollywood strikes.
