Deadpool 3: Jennifer Garner Plays Coy on Elektra Return

Daredevil alum Jennifer Garner has addressed reports that she will be reprising her role as Elektra Natchios in Marvel StudiosDeadpool 3.

Garner played coy when Collider‘s Steve Weintraub asked if she ever thought she would get to don Elektra‘s costume again. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said in a somewhat exaggerated tone. “What could you mean?” Weintraub then directly floated the idea of Garner “hypothetically” appearing in a certain upcoming Deadpool sequel. “Not that I’m aware of,” Garner responded.

The tentatively-titled Deadpool 3 sees Ryan Reynolds‘ Wade Wilson/Deadpool make the jump from 20th Century Fox‘s now-defunct X-Men universe to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reynolds will be joined on his multiversal journey by fellow X-Men franchise alum Hugh Jackman, who reprises his role as James “Logan” Howlett/Wolverine.

Over the past several months, various rumors and reports have surfaced regarding some of the special appearances fans can expect to see in Deadpool 3. However, Garner’s return as Elektra is currently the only one backed by a major trade publication. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively broke the news of Garner’s involvement in the Deadpool threequel this past July.

Deadpool 3 also stars Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, and Rob Delaney as Peter. All of these actors reprise their roles from the Fox-era Deadpool movies. Franchise newcomers Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen round out the Marvel Studios threequel’s cast.

Elektra’s on-screen history

Created by Frank Miller, Elektra Natchios first appeared in 1980’s Daredevil #168. Garner was the first actor to play the character in live-action, starring opposite Ben Affleck in Fox’s 2003 film Daredevil. She reprised her role in the studio’s 2005 spin-off film Elektra. Marvel Studios subsequently regained the screen rights to Elektra in 2014.

In 2016, Élodie Yung took over the role of Elektra in the second season of the Netflix original series Marvel’s Daredevil, which starred Charlie Cox as the Man Without Fear. Yung reprised her role opposite Cox in the 2017 miniseries Marvel’s The Defenders. While Cox has since entered the mainstream MCU, there are currently no known plans for Yung to return as Elektra.

Deadpool 3 opens in theaters on July 26, 2024. Shawn Levy directs the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.
