Gorr Imagines a Godless World in a New Thor: Love and Thunder Spot

The last trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder finally gave us our first proper look at Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. And while the MCU’s take on the character has a more human-looking façade than that of his comic book counterpart, he still looks terrifying enough to be one of the most memorable villains in the franchise’s history. Now, with just over a month to go until it hits theaters, it seems that Marvel is making Bale’s villain a cornerstone of the sequel’s marketing campaign. A new TV spot for Love and Thunder has just made its way online, showcasing Gorr in his god-hating glory. You can check it out for yourself below. Gorr imagines.

Marvel’s latest spot doesn’t highlight a ton of (if any) new footage. However, it does feature some new dialogue from Bale’s Gorr as he sets about ridding the universe of all its godly beings. Obviously, that includes Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, who is back in fighting shape after the events of Avengers: Endgame. He also has a pair of allies to help him out: Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who now wields Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor.

Here’s the official synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

“The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.”

Thor: Love and Thunder will fly into theaters on July 8.
