Aaron Pierre Joins the Cast of Marvel’s Blade Reboot

Another DC veteran is heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadline brings word that former Krypton star Aaron Pierre has booked a role in Marvel’s Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali.

Pierre previously appeared in all 20 episodes of Krypton as Dev-Em prior to the show’s cancellation in 2019. More recently, he starred in Amazon’s The Underground Railroad miniseries and also had a role in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old. Next up, Pierre is voicing a younger version of Mufasa in Disney’s upcoming Lion King prequel directed by Barry Jenkins.

Marvel isn’t revealing which character Pierre has signed on to play. But according to Deadline’s sources, the role has been “one of the more highly coveted parts in Hollywood” ever since Bassam Tariq was hired as Blade’s director last summer. Apparently, Tariq and Kevin Feige “took their time” finding the right actor who could bring this character to life. The filmmakers reportedly met with “dozens” of up-and-comers before Pierre landed on their radar in the last few weeks.

Tariq is directing Blade from a screenplay by Stacy Osei-Kuffour. Aside from Ali and Pierre, the reboot’s cast also includes Delroy Lindo, who joined the project last fall as another mystery character. But unlike Pierre, the studio had Lindo in mind for this role from the beginning. Ali recently made his first “appearance” as the titular vampire in a post-credits scene from Marvel’s Eternals. Unfortunately, we only heard Blade’s voice.

Marvel hasn’t announced a release date for Blade.
