John Cena Will Star in Warner Bros.’ Coyote vs. Acme

Throughout his career, John Cena has tangled with a host of worthy opponents, from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to Idris Elba and Vin Diesel. But now, the wrestler-turned-actor may have finally met his match. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Cena will appear in Coyote vs. Acme, a new film from Warner Bros. based on the iconic Looney Tunes character. John Cena will star.

The movie will follow the (usually) mute Wile E. Coyote as he mounts a lawsuit against the Acme Corporation over the defective products he uses in his attempts to catch and kill the elusive roadrunner. Defending him in court is a “down-on-his-luck human attorney” who soon faces his former law firm’s boss, played by Cena. The film apparently draws influence from a fake article of the same name that was published in The New Yorker in 1990.

Clearly, the negative reaction to Space Jam: A New Legacy isn’t keeping Warner Bros. from producing new Looney Tunes content, because Coyote vs. Acme will reportedly feature a similar blend of live-action and CG animation. Dave Green (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows) is directing the new film from a screenplay by Samy Burch. Chris DeFaria and Cena’s Peacemaker creator James Gunn are also onboard as producers.

Coyote vs. Acme will start production in New Mexico in late March. Warner Bros. still hasn’t announced a release date for the film.
