Universal’s Renfield Adds Shohreh Aghdashloo To the Cast

Renfield continues to fill out its ranks with recognizable talent. According to Deadline, Universal’s Dracula spinoff has cast Oscar nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo in a supporting role.

Aghdashloo received an Academy Award nod for Best Actress for her performance in 2004’s House of Sand and Fog. She also won an Emmy Award in 2009 for her role in the HBO miniseries House of Saddam. More recently, Aghdashloo was part of the main cast of The Expanse from the series’ inception in 2015 until its conclusion earlier this month. Additionally, she has appeared in Star Trek Beyond, The Punisher, and Netflix’s new Arcane animated series.

Nicholas Hoult is leading Renfield’s cast as the titular familiar, long in service to Count Dracula (Nicolas Cage). The movie also appears to be putting a modern and comedic spin on Bram Stoker’s classic character. After years of doing the vampire’s bidding, Renfield attempts to strike out on his own when he meets and falls for Rebecca Quincy, a traffic cop played by Awkwafina. Aghdashloo has joined the film as Ella, a “bold woman” who is also one of her city’s most feared crime lords.

Universal still hasn’t announced a release date for Renfield.
