Rhys Thomas worked in comedy before joining Hawkeye’s directing team. But after helming the series’ first two episodes and this week’s explosive finale, he’s proven himself more than capable of handling action. The show’s glowing critical reception would normally make Thomas a shoe-in to come back for another season. However, it sounds like Marvel is still figuring this part out.
Many Hawkeye viewers were probably expecting a season 2 announcement to be made during the finale’s mid-credits scene in a manner similar to Loki. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. But that doesn’t mean Marvel isn’t actively thinking about Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld’s future as Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, respectively. And if the next chapter of their story does unfold on the small screen, Thomas is willing to return.
“I cannot speak to future plans in the tradition of secrecy,” said Thomas in a recent interview with Collider. “Again, the show coming out, you never know how it’s going to be received and it has been amazing to see how warmly people have taken it and enjoyed it. And it’s been great to see Hailee’s character embraced and sort of land so firmly in the MCU. I sincerely look forward to where that character goes next. And yes, I loved walking on the streets of the MCU and would gladly enjoy doing it again.”

Although Hawkeye initially appeared to be setting up Renner’s retirement from the MCU, the final episode affirmed that he isn’t hanging up his bow just yet. As for Kate, rumors are circulating that Steinfeld will reprise her role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However, we won’t know if this is true until the film opens on July 28, 2023.
All six episodes of Hawkeye are currently available to stream on Disney+.
