Lenny Henry Joins The Witcher: Blood Origin Cast

The cast for Netflix’s The Witcher: Blood Origin has added several names from the UK, including Lenny Henry. The British actor will also appear in the upcoming Lord Of the Rings series after guest-starring in the opening episode of Doctor Who season 12. In Blood Origin, Henry will portray Balor (via Deadline). In addition to Henry, the Witcher prequel series will also see Mirren Mack as Merwyn, Nathaniel Curtis as Brían and Dylan Moran as Uthrok One-Nut. An official description for the characters hasn’t been offered at the moment of writing. Production on the fantasy series is ongoing in the UK.

The Blood Origin cast has also added Jacob Collins Levy as Eredin, Lizzie Annis as Zacaré, Huw Novelli as Callan “Brother Death”, Francesca Mills as Meldof, Amy Murray as Fenrik and Zach Wyatt as Syndril. It has also been announced that Sarah O’Gorman will helm episodes one, four and six, and Vicky Jewson will direct episodes two, three and five.

The six-episode miniseries comes from Declan de Barra, who is writing and executive producing the project. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the showrunner of Netflix’s The Witcher, will executive produce the prequel miniseries. The cast includes Laurence O’Fuarain as Fjall, a vengeful warrior who most likely becomes that first Witcher. Recently, Michelle Yeoh joined the series as a character called Scian.

Here’s the official synopsis for the six-episode miniseries from Netflix:

“In an elven world 1,200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men and elves merge to become one — and the very first Witcher arises.”

The streaming service has yet to announce an official release date.
