Luna appears in the new photo opposite Pedro Pascal, who is co-headlining the series as the original video game’s protagonist, Joel Miller. Hence the #MillerTime hashtag. Nico Parker, who joined the show earlier this week as Joel’s daughter, Sarah, can also be seen behind them. Luna boarded the project earlier this year as Joel’s brother, Tommy, a former member of the militia group known as the Fireflies. Because they’re sitting in a car, we can surmise that the actors are getting ready to film their own version of the game’s prologue stage, where the Miller clan tries to escape the suburbs of Austin during the outbreak of the Cordyceps virus. However, this is only speculation for now.

News of the show’s July start date first made the rounds back in April. Regardless, the cast and crew have a long shoot ahead of them. According to earlier reports, the first season isn’t scheduled to wrap filming until June 2022. It’s still not clear how Pascal aims to square this with his commitments to season 3 of The Mandalorian. But thanks to the first position deal he signed with HBO, The Last of Us takes precedence over the Disney+ series.

Bella Ramsey will also star on The Last of Us as Ellie, the 14-year-old girl whom Joel is tasked with smuggling across the country. Additionally, Merle Dandridge, who appeared in both Last of Us games as Firefly leader Marlene, is reprising her role on the TV show. Craig Mazin is co-writing the series with Naughty Dog president Neil Druckmann. Kantemir Balagov, Jasmila Žbanić, and Ali Abbasi are onboard as directors, with Balagov helming the pilot.

HBO hasn’t announced a premiere date for The Last of Us.
