Two more actors have signed on to appear opposite Peter Dinklage in Legendary’s upcoming reboot of the Toxic Avenger franchise. According to Deadline, Julia Davis and Elijah Wood have booked supporting roles in the new film from writer and director Macon Blair.
The studio hasn’t disclosed the nature of David and Wood’s roles. However, they join a cast that currently includes Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, and Kevin Bacon as the movie’s villain. Originally released in 1984, The Toxic Avenger followed Melvin Ferd, a down-on-his-luck janitor. After Melvin is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he emerges with superhuman size and strength. Unfortunately, the accident also mutates his appearance beyond all recognition. It’s not clear how closely the new film will mirror the plot of the original. But the filmmakers are aiming to produce a superhero satire in the vein of Deadpool while also commenting on environmental issues.

Aside from his star-making turn as Frodo in the Lord of the Rings franchise, Wood has more recently starred on the BBC’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. He also lent his voice to Star Wars Resistance as Jace Rucklin. Wood previously worked with Blair on I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore in 2017. Meanwhile, Davis is better known for her work in the United Kingdom. Her credits include Camping, Sally4Ever, and Hunderby.
Legendary hasn’t announced a release date for The Toxic Avenger yet.
