Penn Jillette Lands a Role in the Borderlands Movie

Lionsgate’s highly-anticipated Borderlands adaptation is adding some magic to its cast. In a recent episode of his Sunday School podcast (via /Film), Penn Jillette revealed that he’s playing a role in the film.

Jillette is probably best known as the vocal half of the magician duo known as Penn & Teller. However, as an actor over the years, he frequently plays either fictionalized versions of himself (often alongside Teller) or some other character on TV shows like Scorpion, Code Black, and Modern Family.

Interestingly enough, this won’t be Jillette’s first trip to the Borderlands universe. In 2019, Borderlands 3 featured two bandits named Pain and Terror, based on Penn & Teller’s likenesses. Jillette also provided the voice of Pain in the game. However, he’s not reprising this role in director Eli Roth’s upcoming film. Instead, he’ll appear in a wedding scene as the preacher officiating the ceremony until a big fight ruins the festivities. Jillette also shared that it’s a “very, very, very small part” in the movie. Additionally, most of his scenes show him acting alongside Kevin Hart.

Roth is directing Borderlands from a screenplay by Chernobyl creator and HBO’s The Last of Us co-writer Craig Mazin. Hart and Cate Blanchett joined the film’s cast earlier this year as two of the original game’s Vault Hunters, Roland and Lilith. The producers soon added Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tannis, Jack Black as the voice of Claptrap, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, and Edgar Ramirez as Atlas. Other cast members include Haley Bennett, Janina Gavankar, Olivier Richters, Gina Gershon, Cheyenne Jackson, Ryann Redmond, and Bobby Lee.

Lionsgate still hasn’t announced a release date for Borderlands.
