It appears that the upcoming director’s cut of Justice League will indeed be very different than the first one, starting with the rating. While 2017’s Justice League got a PG-13 rating, Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been rated R for “violence and some language,” according to FilmRatings.com. It will hardly be Snyder’s first R-rated superhero movie, given that the director’s cut of Batman v Superman also got the same MPAA rating. As did Watchmen.
The news came after director Snyder already teased that it would happen in some of his past interviews. At the time, the director revealed that Ben Affleck’s Batman would drop an F-bomb in one scene. On top of that, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg would tend to speak his mind about how unhappy his life was before meeting the Justice League. Another element influencing the final rating is that Steppenwolf will pretty much just be “hacking people in half,” hence the violence.

The upcoming Zack Snyder’s Justice League will debut as a four-hour film on HBO Max on Mar. 18. Warner Bros. and HBO Max believe that this project will bring in new subscribers to the streaming service. The director’s cut saw the green light after many, many fan petitions that generated the online #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement. The process brought Warner Bros. to the negotiating table before approving a rumored $70 million budget for the reshoots.
