Official Back to the Future Transformer Packs a Gigawatt of Fun

After thirty-five years, Back to the Future toys are finally everywhere. But this is one fans might not have seen coming three decades ago. Two great eighties tastes look to taste great together as the signature custom Delorean used to travel through time can now transform into an Autobot as well. Following in the footsteps of Ectotron, which turned the Ghostbusters’ Ecto-1 into a Cybertronian warrior, Hasbro‘s latest mashup is Gigawatt. A Back to the Future Transformer.

Some cool touches on this toy include a removable hook to ride the lightning home, and the flux capacitor in the robot mode’s chest. The robot’s wide-eyed stare even invokes Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown. And yes, the wheels flip down for flight mode. The gull-wing doors also open, though like most Transformers, this isn’t really made for passengers.

According to Mashable, preorders start today at Walmart.com beginning at 1 p.m. eastern. More will later be available at Hasbro Pulse and other retailers. But supplies may get short, as Hasbro limited the production run to 1985 units. An IDW comic miniseries will explain the storyline that features Marty McFly running afoul of Decepticons, and getting some Autobot assistance.

Take a look at more images of Gigawatt in the gallery below. Is this the best news since Huey Lewis? Will you make a robot out of a time machine out of a Delorean? Let us know what you think in comments.
