David Harbour Teases ‘Indiana Jones-Type Action’ in Stranger Things 4

Netflix is raising the bar once again in the upcoming fourth season of Stranger Things. The latest installment of the popular show saw Jim Hopper sacrificing himself for protecting Eleven and her friends. In a recent interview with DeadlineStranger Things star David Harbour compared his character to Gandalf the White, hinting that it may be on a completely different level now.

“I’ve always felt that he, in some sense, had to die,” he said. “I think they’ve crafted something really beautiful where in a sense he does sacrifice himself, and as we’ve seen from the teaser, he’s resurrected, almost in my mind, like a Gandalf the White.”

According to Harbour, dying was the only way for his character to reconnect with his daughter Sarah, who died of cancer.

At the moment, the COVID-19 outbreak forces the streaming service to put Stranger Things 4 production on hold, but as soon as it reprises, greater things are coming. The actor went on to tease that fans will see a different side of Hopper in the next season, something that links back to his past.

“Each season we see a different side of him,” he added. “Last season was… a bit wackier, and I loved playing that. Now [in Season 4] he is painted in a bit of a darker palette; he’s able to express some of these really deep things that we’ve… hinted at with the boxes in Season 2.”

And if that’s not enough, the upcoming season will be action-packed.

“It’s very epic,” he said. “There are monsters and horror and scares. There’s also some great Indiana Jones-type action.”

Harbour also revealed that at the moment, nobody has a timetable for restarting production, and they are all “playing it by ear,” but he wishes that it will resume as soon as possible.

What do you think Harbour was referring to when he spoke about Hopper’s past? Let us know your guess in the comments section.
