It’s been two weeks since WarnerMedia finally unveiled HBO Max, bringing several live-action DC films ready to be streamed. However, it looks like subscribers will soon have to look elsewhere if they want to sample from the DC library. Via ComicBook.com, most of HBO Max’s collection of superhero movies is leaving the service in a matter of weeks.
The outgoing titles include DC Extended Universe entries like Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, and Justice League. Additionally, movies from prior decades are getting scrubbed from the service. All four Batman films from the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher era are leaving alongside Catwoman, Jonah Hex, Steel, and The Losers (which is technically a Vertigo property). As it turns out, not even animated movies are safe from the upcoming purge, as The LEGO Batman Movie is on its way out as well. Users who select these films in HBO Max will see a message noting that they’re available until July 1.

Regardless of this latest development, subscribers will still have a few DC-related options to choose from. Aquaman, Shazam!, Green Lantern, and the 1984 Supergirl movie are all sticking around for the foreseeable future. Plus, animated films and TV series such as Wonder Woman, Teen Titans, and Batman: The Killing Joke are remaining on the service.
It isn’t clear what prompted this latest content shakeup at HBO Max, but it definitely comes as a surprise. After all, the service’s promise to add “every Superman and Batman movie from the last 40 years” was easily one of its biggest selling points. Of course, it already broke this promise when no standalone Superman movies were found on launch day.
