Exclusive Preview: Batman and the Outsiders #9

Batman has always coped with his trauma by building surrogate families around himself. First with the Robins, then with other Gotham City heroes. However, Batman’s new team, the Outsiders, have come under attack from Ra’s al Ghul. Ra’s wants to systematically destroy the connections that Batman has made, and ruin his family. That’s why Ra’s has corrupted the Signal with new shadow powers and forced Cassandra Cain/Orphan to face her dark past.

Additionally, Ra’s is targeting Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning, the defacto leader of Batman’s young team. In the last issue of Outsiders, one of Ra’s operatives assassinated Tina McClintock. Tina wasn’t a superhero, but she was a trusted colleague of Jefferson’s. And her death may push Black Lightning over the edge.

In Superhero Hype’s exclusive preview for Batman and the Outsiders #9, Bryan Hill and artist Dexter Soy depict the aftermath of Tina’s death. Batman and Black Lightning both realize that Ra’s was behind the hit. But only Black Lightning is willing to kill to avenge his loss.

Here’s the official description from DC.

“Ra’s al Ghul and his army of assassins have turned their attention away from the Dark Knight-and toward Black Lightning! They’ve done something terrible to him that can never be fixed, and Black Lightning will need the Outsiders to stop him from crossing a line that could change his life forever.”
