New Star Trek: Picard Teaser Recalls Nemesis’ ‘Blue Skies’

Later this month, Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard is coming out of retirement in Star Trek: Picard. It’s been nearly two decades since Picard’s last on-screen appearance in Star Trek: Nemesis. However, the events of that film may be lingering on Picard’s mind.

CBS All Access has released a new Picard teaser that features a haunting cover of Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies.” In the new footage, Picard asks to be reinstated to Starfleet for one last mission.

Why is the song choice significant? Because Data sang “Blue Skies” at Riker and Troi’s wedding in Star Trek: Nemesis shortly before sacrificing his life to save Picard.

Apparently  Worf was not an Irving Berlin fan. But he’s not on the guest list for Picard‘s inaugural season. Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner will reprise their roles from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Jeri Ryan will also make her Trek return as Seven of Nine.

However, the bulk of Picard’s cast includes several Star Trek newcomers, including Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway, and Isa Briones.

Star Trek: Picard will premiere on January 23 on CBS All Access.
