Even though Robert Pattinson’s casting as the leading actor for the upcoming Batman movie set off an online backlash from some Dark Knight fans, the British star is still pretty excited for his role. Speaking with Variety about his next gig, Pattinson revealed that he wanted to wear the Dark Knight’s cape and mask for quite a bit of time.
“I’d had Batman in my mind for a while,” Pattinson said. “It’s such an absurd thing to say. I sort of had an idea to do it, and I’d been prodding Matt [Reeves]. He didn’t accept any prods. I kept asking to meet him.”

After finally meeting with Reeves, Pattinson flew back to Los Angeles to audition in the Batsuit, which he described as “the craziest thing” he has ever done for securing a job.
“I put it on. I remember saying to Matt, ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ He was like, ‘I would hope it does! You’re literally in the Batsuit.’” Pattinson said. “You do feel very powerful immediately. And it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.’
Pattinson admitted that the audition wasn’t the first time he wore a Batsuit (“When I was a kid, it was the only outfit that I had”), but he was very shy about revealing where he used to wear it.
He added, “If I actually said it in an interview, I would definitely have a lot of abuse afterwards. If I successfully play the character, I can say it at the end.”
