Billy’s Abs Take Center Stage in New Stranger Things 3 Clip

Stranger Things 3 will give fans of the show something they’ve never seen before: summertime in Hawkins, Indiana. Any fun in the sun is bound to be short-lived thanks to the persisting threat from the upside-down. But until any new inter-dimensional beasts rear their ugly heads, life in the Midwest suburb will carry on as normal. For proof of this, look no further than the first clip from the beloved Netflix show’s third season.

Rather than hyping the series’ return with more action and suspense, Netflix is opting for a more lighthearted tease. The new clip focuses on Dacre Montgomery’s Billy Hargrove, now working as a lifeguard at a community swimming pool. It’s admittedly strange to see Billy – someone who clearly has no reservations about hurting kids – entrusted with the safety of the town’s children. However, it’s hilarious to watch him stroll alongside the pool in slow-motion to the tune of The Cars’ “Moving in Stereo” while Hawkins’ resident cougars (including Mike and Nancy’s mother) ogle him from their lounge chairs.

Billy was introduced in Stranger Things’ second season as Max Mayfield’s sadistic step-brother. Viewers eventually learned that Billy’s behavior stems from years of physical abuse at the hands of his father. By painting him in this sympathetic light, it’s possible that the writers will give him a redemptive arc in season 3.  If so, Billy could prove to be a crucial ally when the gateway to the upside-down reopens. But he’s more likely to make trouble again.

Stranger Things 3 will premiere on Netflix on July 4. You can check out the new clip below, then tell us what you think in the comment section!
