IDW Shares New Details About the Transformers Prequel Comic

Back in December, IDW announced a new Transformers comic that sheds new light on the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons. With the first issue hitting stores this week, ID is offering new intel about what readers can expect.

“We are eager to begin this new chapter in Transformers storytelling,” Kelly said Hasbro’s Michael Kelly in a statement via SYFY Wire. “We are excited to begin a tale that will be accessible and appealing to readers unfamiliar with Transformers lore, while still providing the depth and drama that our long-time fans expect. It’s a big responsibility, but we’ve got the right team and the right characters to do it.”

The series takes place near the end of Cybertron’s golden age. However, a brutal murder will divide the robots into warring factions and shatter the long held peace. Essentially, it’s the origin story for the Autobots and the Decepticons.

“Bringing Transformers fans this story is a real privilege,” said series writer Brian Ruckley. “But just as important, it’s an amazing opportunity for new readers to discover and explore one of the biggest universes – and one of the best casts of characters – that science fiction has to offer, and to get in right at the start of a truly epic saga.”

Joining Ruckley on the series are artists Angel Hernandez and Ron Joseph. For an extended preview of the premiere issue, check out an advance look at SYFY WIRE. The first issue hits comic stores on Wednesday, March 13.
