The id Software-produced shooter Doom made its film debut back in 2005, in an effort featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Karl Urban. Unfortunately, despite moments of inspiration taken from the classic first-person shooter, it didn’t resonate well with fans. But that isn’t stopping Universal from giving it another shot, this time with a direct-to-video follow-up.
Universal’s 114 Entertainment (as part of its Home Entertainment division) has a new trailer for Doom: Annihilation, which will make its home debut later this year. In the trailer, we see soldiers going up against hellish forces in a location that fans of Doom 3 will be quite familiar with.
Written and directed by Tony Giglio (S.W.A.T.: Under Siege), the film stars Amy Manson (Atlantis), Nina Bergman (The Car: Road To Revenge) and Dominic Mafham (Ophelia). In it, a team of space marines head to a base upon a Martian moon, with hellish forces lying in wait.
As you can see, the trailer has lots of action, just like the games. That said, however, some fans can’t help but think that its quality is a little on the low side. This is especially true when compared to the immense quality from the 2016 Doom game.

Thus far, voting on the trailer over at YouTube has taken a very negative turn. It currently sits at over 2,900 dislikes, compared to 247 likes. Social media hasn’t been kind to the forthcoming Annihilation either, based on the tweets below.
So we’re getting a sequel/soft remake of Doom, made by Universal’s direct-to-video division? And looks so cheap it looks like it was filmed at a Laser Quest?

Though the film is still a ways off from its release this fall, it sounds like Universal has some work to do when it comes to its fans. At least they can look forward to Doom Eternal, which should debut on consoles and PC over the next year.
