It’s been fourteen years since Jackman first took on the role—you can see a fun picture of the actor as a unknown youngster here–and this time, his consciousness from the near future has been transplanted into the Wolverine of 1973 to team with the younger Professor Xavier (James McAvoy), Beast (Nicolas Hoult) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) to stop Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) from killing Peter Dinklage’s Bolivar Trask, the inventor of the deadly Sentinel robots that have been killing mutants in the future. (If you’ve read the original Claremont-Byrne comic on which the movie is loosely based, that will require no further explanation.)
Although ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype spoke with Jackman twice last year, once for The Wolverine and once for Prisoners, it’s always fun to talk to him about Wolverine due to his genuine enthusiasm for the character even after paying him seven times.
This time around, Jackman spoke to us about reuniting with the original X-Men cast while working with the new actors’ incarnations introduced in X-Men: First Class. During the interview, he once again displays his love for playing the character and admits that Logan still offers more layers to explore despite having played him more times than most of the actors who played James Bond and that the scripts are generally getting better. We jumped on Jackman’s comments about getting older as an opportunity to ask if we might possibly see the “Old Man Logan” storyline in the next Wolverine movie or possibly “Alpha Flight.”
That in turn led to our observation that for “Old Man Logan” to work, it would probably need some of the other Marvel Universe characters, and Jackman told us how much he’d love to see the Marvel characters from different studios come together in some way. He’d like to think they’ll get there some day, but he affirms that they do have a plan for the next few X-movies including the third solo Wolverine movie.
